Cliff-hanger finish to Town v Gown quiz chaired by John Bercow MP
The Town team defeated the Gown team 56-55 in an exciting contest witnessed by a large audience at the Lillingstone Trust’s Discovery Centre at the Royal Latin School on Friday 25th November.
Afterwards, 2016 BBC Mastermind Alan Heath, who lives in Buckingham and, with his wife Heather had produced the questions, commented:-
“I was impressed by both teams, with their level of knowledge and the spirit in which the game was played. The close result added to the spectacle but it showed that the teams were evenly matched and either could have won. In the end it was the luck of the draw how the questions fell.”
Alan Heath also commented “I thought that John Bercow was excellent as the question master. The way that he kept the show moving, whilst also keeping it entertaining, was brilliant. No doubt it was his experience as Speaker which allowed him to keep control of proceedings effortlessly.“
The overall evening was chaired by Sir Anthony Seldon, Vice Chancellor of the University of Buckingham, in a most entertaining manner, including the Question & Answer session with Alan Heath about his Mastermind experience. Alan’s victory had also been a ‘cliff-hanger’ – the first ever Mastermind victory to be won on a tie-breaker.
The event raised well over £2,000 of valuable funding for Citizens Advice and there are already the first murmurings of a Town v Gown rematch later this year.
